AE Alkaline-impregnated Coconut Shell Carbon – Organic Vapor & Acid Gas Protection

Produced from premium coconut shell carbon loaded with alkaline impregnation agent and high-temperature curing treatment, AE is a dual-function protective activated carbon. It combines organic vapor adsorption capacity with acid gas neutralization performance, effectively removing chlorine, hydrogen chloride, sulfur dioxide, hydrocyanic acid and low-concentration hydrogen sulfide from gas streams.

Product Overview

AE acid-gas protective activated carbon adopts high specific surface area coconut shell granular carbon as the carrier, and uniformly loads alkaline active components in the pores through precise alkaline solution impregnation and curing process. It retains the excellent physical adsorption performance of coconut shell carbon for organic vapors, and efficiently purifies acid harmful gases through acid-base neutralization reaction. With high mechanical strength and stable airflow resistance, it is compatible with various gas mask filter cartridges and waste gas purification devices.

Key Features

  • Organic & Acid Gas Dual Function

Effectively adsorbs benzene series organic vapors, and neutralizes acid gases such as sulfur dioxide, hydrogen chloride and hydrocyanic acid.

  • Alkaline Impregnation Formula

Uniform loading of alkaline active components with high acid gas absorption capacity and long breakthrough protection time.

  • High Mechanical Strength (>95% hardness)

Low wear and dust generation, maintains stable bed resistance under long-term airflow scouring.

  • Standard Particle Size Options

Available in 8×16 mesh (1.18–2.36 mm) and 12×20 mesh (0.85–1.70 mm), compatible with various filtration devices.

Applications

  • Acid Gas Workplace Respiratory Hazard: Pickling, electroplating and chemical synthesis operations generate SO₂, HCl and HCN that standard carbon cannot reliably capture. AE's alkaline impregnation chemisorbs these acid gases through neutralization reactions while maintaining organic vapor adsorption capacity.

  • Mixed Organic & Acid Gas Treatment: Workspaces where organic solvents and acid gases coexist create dual-contaminant challenges. AE's dual-mode design handles both contaminant types in a single bed, simplifying system design versus separate media configurations.

  • Industrial Acid Waste Gas Purification: Exhaust streams containing sulfur dioxide and hydrogen chloride require reactive media, not just physical adsorption. AE's alkaline-impregnated surface converts acid gases into stable salts, preventing breakthrough that would occur with standard activated carbon.

  • Laboratory Fume Hood Protection: Fume hood exhaust containing mixed acid and organic vapors threatens operator safety. AE provides dual-function purification, removing both acid gases and organic compounds before atmospheric discharge.

Technical Advantages

FAQ

Q: What is the protection time of AE against sulfur dioxide?

A: Breakthrough protection time is ≥35 min for SO₂ and ≥65 min for cyclohexane under standard test conditions. Actual service life varies with gas concentration and airflow rate. For higher acid-gas loads, consider PFH-E with its enhanced alkaline loading.

Q: Can AE be used for ammonia protection?

A: AE is designed for organic vapors and acid gases, with limited effect on alkaline gases like ammonia. For ammonia scenarios, we recommend PFH-K or the comprehensive ABEK grade.

Q: How do I know when to replace AE?

A: Replace immediately if odor is detected or breathing resistance increases significantly. For fixed installations, schedule replacement based on operating time and gas concentration monitoring.
