PSD-A1 High-Iodine Coconut Shell Carbon – 1100mg/g Enhanced Capacity for Industrial Water

PSD-A1 is the high-adsorption upgrade within the PSD water treatment carbon series. Produced with a deeper activation profile, it reaches an iodine value of ≥1100 mg/g, delivering measurably higher organic capacity and longer service life than standard 1000-grade coconut carbons. It is the preferred choice for systems with higher inlet organic loads, variable feedwater quality, or requirements for extended carbon change-out intervals.

Product Overview

Manufactured from select high-density coconut shells through carbonization and extended steam activation, PSD-A1 12×40 is a high-purity coconut shell granular activated carbon with an iodine number exceeding 1100 mg/g and a surface area greater than 1000 m²/g. This micropore-dominant structure delivers reliable adsorption capacity for trace organic contaminants, residual chlorine, and taste- and odor-causing compounds in demanding water treatment environments.

With low ash content (<5%), controlled pH (8–11), and exceptional mechanical strength (>95%), PSD-A1 maintains consistent hydraulic performance and minimal fines generation under repeated backwashing and long-term bed operation. NSF 61 certified and approved for food and drinking water contact, it is engineered for point-of-entry (POE) treatment, semiconductor ultra-pure water systems, condensate polishing, and food & beverage processing where media purity and operational reliability are essential.

Key Features

  • ≥1100 mg/g enhanced iodine adsorption value

Deeper activation yields higher micropore volume and greater total adsorption capacity, extending service intervals.

  • NSF 61 certified food-grade safety

Fully certified for potable water and food processing applications, supporting regulatory compliance across industries.

  • ≥95% high hardness and durability

Excellent mechanical strength resists particle breakage during backwash and hydraulic surges, maintaining stable bed permeability.

  • Superior shock-load resistance

Higher total capacity buffers against inlet water quality fluctuations, maintaining consistent effluent quality during upset conditions.

  • Customizable particle sizing

Available in all standard mesh sizes and custom gradations to match specific system hydraulics.

Applications

  • Heavy-Load Industrial Water Pretreatment: Systems with elevated inlet TOC or variable feedwater quality need more robust organic capacity than standard 1000-grade carbons. PSD-A1's ≥1100 mg/g iodine value delivers measurably higher usable capacity, extending bed life and reducing annual replacement costs.

  • High-Flow Commercial POE Systems: Large building and industrial park entry systems maintain reliable performance at high throughput. PSD-A1's enhanced capacity buffers against inlet water quality fluctuations, maintaining consistent effluent during upset conditions.

  • Premium Beverage & Brewing: Craft beer and specialty beverages require deeper trace-impurity removal for flavor consistency. PSD-A1's larger internal pore volume captures low-concentration organics that standard grades miss.

  • Industrial Wastewater Advanced Polishing: Final treatment of biologically treated effluent needs maximum organic removal for discharge or reuse. PSD-A1's higher capacity helps meet stringent COD targets.

Technical Advantages

Technical Advantages.png
  • Approximately 10–15% higher usable organic capacity than standard 1000 iodine carbons under identical conditions, extending service intervals.

  • Well-developed, uniformly distributed microporosity delivers excellent removal of low-concentration trace organics ideal for polishing stages.

  • Retains natural low-ash, taste-improving benefits of coconut shell carbon while boosting total performance.

  • Tight production quality controls minimize batch-to-batch iodine value variation, making system performance predictable.

FAQ

Q: When should I choose PSD-A1 over PSD-A0?

A: Select PSD-A1 when inlet water has higher organic load, longer service intervals are needed, or tighter effluent TOC targets exist. Choose PSD-A0 for routine municipal pretreatment where standard performance is sufficient.

Q: Is there an acid-washed version?

A: Yes. The acid-washed variant is PSD-A1 S, combining 1100 mg/g capacity with deep acid purification for high-purity applications.

Q: Does higher iodine value cause higher pressure drop?

A: No. Pressure drop is determined by particle size and bed depth. PSD-A1 is available in the same mesh sizes as PSD-A0. For lowest pressure drop, YK-AC pellet form is an alternative.
