SRC-A 4mm Impregnated Coal Extruded Carbon – High-Capacity H₂S & Sulfide Removal

SRC-A is a high-performance impregnated extruded activated carbon designed specifically for removing hydrogen sulfide and low-concentration organic sulfide gases from industrial air streams. Manufactured from premium bituminous coal via steam activation followed by alkaline impregnation treatment, it combines physical adsorption with chemical reaction to deliver high sulfide removal capacity for odor and acid gas control applications.

Product Overview

Built on a high-activity 4mm coal-based extruded base carbon with >60% CTC and >900 m²/g BET surface area, SRC-A is treated with a controlled alkaline impregnant formulation that creates active chemical sites on the carbon surface. When hydrogen sulfide and organic sulfide gases pass through the bed, they react with the impregnated components to form stable solid sulfide compounds, delivering far higher removal capacity than untreated physical adsorption alone.

With a bulk density of 580–620 kg/m³ and >90% abrasion resistance, it provides stable bed packing and durable performance in continuous operation. It is widely used for odor control in wastewater treatment plants, desulfurization of oil & gas streams, and general industrial acid gas abatement systems.

Key Features

  • High-capacity sulfide-specific impregnation

Alkaline active components chemically react with H₂S and organic sulfides to form stable salts, delivering significantly higher sulfur capacity than plain activated carbon.

  • High-activity base carbon substrate

Base carbon delivers >60% CTC value and >900 m²/g surface area, providing concurrent adsorption of co-existing VOCs and organic odor compounds.

  • Uniform 4mm extruded structure

Consistent cylindrical shape ensures even gas distribution and stable pressure drop across packed filter beds.

  • >90% mechanical abrasion resistance

High particle strength minimizes breakage and dust generation under continuous airflow and system maintenance operations.

Applications

  • Wastewater Plant H₂S Breakthrough: Pumping stations, sludge tanks and aeration basins generate hydrogen sulfide that standard carbon cannot reliably capture at low concentrations. SRC-A's alkaline impregnation chemisorbs H₂S into stable metal sulfides, delivering removal capacity where physical adsorption alone fails—especially critical at 1–5 ppm where plain carbon is ineffective.

  • Oil & Gas Stream Sweetening: Natural gas, biogas and landfill gas contain H₂S and mercaptans that corrode equipment and violate pipeline specifications. SRC-A's chemical reaction mechanism provides irreversible capture, preventing desorption during temperature or pressure swings.

  • Food Processing Sulfide Odor Control: Meat, poultry, fish and rendering facilities generate sulfide odors that create regulatory and neighbor relations issues. SRC-A's targeted impregnation converts these odorous compounds into stable, non-volatile forms within the carbon matrix.

  • Chemical Manufacturing Acid Gas Abatement: Sulfur-based raw materials and process intermediates release acidic sulfide emissions. SRC-A's dual mechanism handles both H₂S and co-existing organic odors in a single bed.

Technical Advantages

Technical Advantages.png
  • Dual mechanism of physical adsorption plus chemical neutralization provides significantly higher H₂S breakthrough capacity than standard untreated activated carbon.

  • Higher base carbon activity and impregnant loading compared to economy-grade desulfurization carbons result in longer service life per bed volume.

  • Consistent bed packing and predictable pressure drop simplify system design and sizing calculations.

  • Manufactured and tested to national activated carbon quality standards for reliable long-term operation.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between SRC-A and SRC-BL?

A: SRC-A uses a higher-activity base carbon with higher total sulfur capacity, making it the premium choice for higher-concentration streams and longer service life. SRC-BL is the economy grade suitable for light-load ambient odor control projects. For ammonia co-existence, ABEK is recommended.

Q: Can SRC-A remove ammonia?

A: SRC-A is formulated specifically for acidic sulfide gases. For ammonia and alkaline odors, we recommend dedicated PFH-K or ARC-A. For mixed streams, sequential bed layers can be arranged.

Q: Is thermal regeneration recommended?

A: Thermal regeneration is not recommended for impregnated sulfide removal carbon, as high temperatures decompose active impregnants. Spent carbon is typically disposed of and replaced. For regenerable alternatives, TLX activated coke supports thermal cycles.
