TLX Coal Columnar Activated Coke – Desulfurization & Denitrification for Flue Gas

TLX is an industrial-grade columnar activated carbon (activated coke) engineered specifically for dry flue gas purification. Manufactured from premium bituminous coal through extrusion forming and high-temperature activation, it delivers integrated desulfurization, denitrification and dust control performance in high-temperature flue gas environments. With exceptional mechanical strength and abrasion resistance, it is the standard adsorbent for large-scale moving-bed and fixed-bed flue gas treatment systems in power generation, iron & steel and industrial boiler applications.

Product Overview

Produced from selected high-quality bituminous coal through fine grinding, extrusion molding, carbonization and controlled activation, TLX features a hierarchically developed pore structure and high mechanical integrity. Its porous surface provides physical adsorption capacity for SO₂, NOₓ and particulate matter, while inherent surface catalytic sites promote oxidation of sulfur dioxide into sulfuric acid in the presence of oxygen and water vapor, achieving efficient dry desulfurization without chemical additives.

Available in standard 5mm and 9mm cylindrical specifications, TLX maintains ≥97% abrasion resistance and high compressive strength, resisting particle breakage under long-term airflow scouring and frequent thermal regeneration cycles. Its stable performance under typical industrial flue gas temperatures makes it suitable for large-scale continuous-operation flue gas purification systems.

Key Features

  • Integrated desulfurization & denitrification performance

Combined physical adsorption and surface catalytic action achieves efficient removal of SO₂ and NOₓ in a single dry treatment process, avoiding wastewater generation.

  • ≥97% ultra-high mechanical strength

Excellent compressive and abrasion resistance minimizes particle attrition and dust generation during long-term operation and repeated regeneration cycles.

  • High-temperature flue gas adaptability

Stable performance under typical industrial flue gas temperature ranges, suitable for dry treatment without additional gas cooling equipment.

  • Thermally regenerable for long service life

Supports multiple thermal regeneration cycles to restore adsorption capacity, significantly reducing long-term operating cost for large flue gas systems.

Applications

  • Power Plant Flue Gas Ultra-Low Emission Compliance: Coal-fired boilers must meet stringent SO₂ and NOₓ standards. TLX's dry desulfurization and denitrification process achieves >90% SO₂ removal without generating wastewater, avoiding the secondary pollution and high operating costs of wet scrubbing systems.

  • Steel Sintering Flue Gas Treatment: Sintering operations produce high-temperature, high-dust flue gas that destroys conventional activated carbon. TLX's activated coke structure maintains integrity to 200°C while providing integrated pollutant control in a single dry bed.

  • Industrial Boiler & Kiln Emission Control: Chemical, metallurgical and building materials industries need flue gas purification without cooling gas streams. TLX's high-temperature stability supports direct dry treatment, eliminating energy-intensive gas cooling equipment.

  • Coking Plant Waste Gas Treatment: Coking operations release sulfide, dust and organic pollutants. TLX's combined adsorption and catalytic action handles these complex streams in integrated systems.

Technical Advantages

Technical Advantages.png
  • Dry treatment process generates no wastewater, eliminating secondary pollution and reducing overall system cost compared to wet desulfurization.

  • High mechanical strength and wear resistance support long-term operation in moving bed systems with 3–5 times longer service life than ordinary granular carbon.

  • Uniform pore structure and stable surface activity ensure consistent desulfurization efficiency across long operating cycles.

  • Available in custom impregnated grades for enhanced denitrification or heavy metal removal, adaptable to complex flue gas compositions.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between TLX and SRC series?

A: SRC series is designed for low-temperature ambient air odor and H₂S removal. TLX is engineered for high-temperature industrial flue gas desulfurization and denitrification with higher mechanical strength and thermal stability. For flue gas mercury control, DIOSORB-S is recommended.

Q: Can TLX be thermally regenerated?

A: Yes. TLX supports multiple thermal regeneration cycles. Under proper conditions, it retains over 80% of original performance after repeated regeneration, greatly reducing long-term media cost.

Q: What particle sizes are available?

A: Standard specifications are 5mm and 9mm diameter columnar particles matching most fixed bed and moving bed systems. For lower-temperature odor control, SRC-A or SRC-BL 4mm carbon is recommended.
