WT Basic Coal Granular Carbon – Entry-Level Economical Grade for Water Pretreatment

WT is the foundational entry-level model in the WT coal-based water treatment carbon series, engineered for large-scale primary water treatment scenarios where cost efficiency is the core priority. Manufactured from quality bituminous coal through conventional steam activation, it delivers reliable basic organic adsorption performance at a highly competitive unit price, making it the standard cost-optimized solution for front-end industrial wastewater pretreatment, circulating water systems and bulk non-potable water purification projects.

Product Overview

Produced from selected bituminous coal through crushing, screening, carbonization and steam activation processes, WT features a balanced basic pore structure that provides effective removal of macromolecular organics, color and partial odor compounds from water. With an iodine value of ≥850 mg/g and ≥90% abrasion hardness, it maintains stable filtration performance under conventional operating conditions and withstands standard backwashing cycles without excessive attrition.

WT is fully compatible with most standard pressure filters, gravity filters and multimedia filtration systems. Its ultra-high cost performance makes it suitable for large-fill-volume projects with moderate inlet loads and strict budget controls, serving as the most economical option for primary and secondary water treatment stages.

Key Features

  • Cost-Optimized Bulk Filtration
Delivers reliable adsorption at the lowest unit price in the WT series, ideal for large-fill-volume projects where budget efficiency is as critical as contaminant removal.

  • Balanced Macromolecular Adsorption
The well-developed basic pore structure effectively removes macromolecular organics, chroma and odor compounds from conventional industrial and municipal water bodies—serving as a practical upstream companion to higher-spec grades like WT-P in multi-stage treatment trains.

  • High Mechanical Durability
Solid particle strength withstands routine backwashing and hydraulic shock, maintaining stable bed permeability and structural integrity during long-term continuous operation.

  • Flexible System Integration
Fully compatible with standard pressure filters, gravity filters and multimedia filtration systems, enabling seamless deployment in both new builds and existing primary/secondary treatment infrastructure.

  • Consistent Quality at Scale
Standardized production controls ensure uniform batch-to-batch quality for bulk orders, supporting predictable performance in large-scale continuous-operation water treatment systems.

Applications

  • Large-Volume Industrial Wastewater Primary Pretreatment: Front-end organic and color reduction in wastewater treatment trains reduces loading on subsequent biochemical and advanced processes. WT's entry-level positioning provides reliable basic adsorption at the lowest unit cost for bulk filling projects where premium performance is unnecessary.

  • Circulating Cooling Water Organic Control: Open cooling systems accumulate organic pollutants that promote biofouling and corrosion. WT's economical pricing makes it feasible for large-scale continuous dosing in cooling tower make-up water treatment.

  • Bulk Non-Potable Water Purification: Surface water, groundwater and reclaimed water for landscape irrigation and dust suppression need basic purification without potable water standards. WT's cost-optimized design fits these large-volume, moderate-requirement applications.

  • General Wastewater Secondary Polishing: Basic organic polishing for biologically treated effluent from industrial facilities meets basic discharge compliance without the premium cost of higher-grade media.

Technical Advantages

Technical Advantages.png
  • The most cost-effective option in the coal-based water treatment carbon portfolio, significantly reducing initial capital expenditure for large-scale projects with moderate treatment requirements.

  • Balanced pore structure handles most conventional macromolecular organic pollutants, fully meeting basic treatment needs of primary and secondary water treatment stages.

  • Robust mechanical properties adapt to standard system operation and backwashing procedures with low daily maintenance requirements.

  • Supports standard thermal regeneration to further reduce long-term operating costs for large continuous-operation systems.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between WT, WT-S and WT-P?

A: WT is the entry-level basic grade with ≥850 mg/g iodine for primary pretreatment and budget-first projects. WT-S is the standard grade with ≥900 mg/g for routine municipal and industrial water treatment. WT-P is the high-efficiency grade with ≥950 mg/g optimized for BAC processes and advanced tertiary treatment.

Q: Is WT suitable for drinking water treatment?

A: WT is formulated for industrial non-potable water and primary wastewater treatment. For potable water and food-contact applications, we recommend NSF-certified PSD series coconut shell activated carbons.

Q: What is the typical service life in industrial wastewater?

A: Under conventional inlet conditions, expected service life ranges from 6 to 12 months depending on organic load, flow rate and operating parameters. For extended life, WT-P offers higher capacity.
